Pro soccer, a car show & 3 more fun things to do in Kansas City this weekend
It’s time to get outside, Kansas City.
What is hopefully the last of the snow is behind us, and clear and sunny skies lie ahead as we enter the spring season this weekend. Use this time to check out what’s going on around the city.
Professional sporting events stay on the calendar, and an automobile showcase wheels into downtown Kansas City once again.
I’m missing a lot, but here a few things you should keep your eye on in the days to come. If there’s something you have your eye on for next week that people should absolutely go to, email jhernandez@kcstar.com.
Sporting KC vs Colorado Rapids
Last week not only marked Sporting KC’s first win of the season, but it was also their first victory since a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 30, 2025. They’ll have a chance to extend their winning streak against Colorado this weekend.
Sporting KC returns to Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday, March 21, to host the Rapids. It’s slated to be 80 degrees when the match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available on SeatGeek for $29 in the general admission south stand and $30 in the general admission supporter’s section.

NAIA men’s basketball tournament
While Kansas City isn’t hosting either the men’s or women’s NCAA college basketball tournaments, it’ll still get a taste of March Madness. College basketball’s oldest tournament, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics men’s basketball championship, returns Thursday, March 19.
The NAIA is made up from smaller colleges and universities around the country, but still offers the same style of exciting action seen in the NCAA. The field has narrowed down from 64 teams to 16, and will crown a champion after the final 15 games, taking place every day between March 19-24 at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City.
Three of the tournament’s No. 1 seeds made it to Kansas City: Freed-Hardeman University from Henderson, Tennessee; Grace College from Winona Lake, Indiana; and Oklahoma Wesleyan University from Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
All-tournament tickets give you access to the remaining games, and cost $100 per person on Ticketmaster. Single-day tickets start at $25 for fans ages 13 and up and $6 for kids ages 5-12. Discounts are available for students who attend NAIA schools, like Avila University, Baker University, Benedictine College, Haskell Indian Nations University, Park University and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Quixotic’s Whiskey Dynamite
The styles of Americana goes on a psychedelic road trip during Whiskey Dynamite, an interactive multimedia performance hosted by internationally-known entertainment company Quixotic.
The show is only available for guests ages 18 and up, and blends acrobatics, state-of-the-art visuals and live music inside The Grand Theater, 2450 Grand Blvd.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21. The cheapest tickets are $58.
Freedom Plane’s final weekend at National WWI Museum
Some of the most prominent documents in American history are leaving Kansas City this weekend, and the National WWI Museum and Memorial has extended its hours to give visitors more chances to see it.
The Freedom Plane National Tour brings nine original documents from the U.S.’s founding, like the Treaty of Paris and George Washington’s, Alexander Hamilton’s, and Aaron Burr’s Oaths of Allegiance, to cities around the country.
The free exhibit will now be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, to Saturday, March 21. You will have one final shot to see it from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
