Crucial pieces of US history on display in Kansas City. Here’s how to see them
Some of the most prominent documents in American history will be available to view in Kansas City this month.
From March 6-22, the Freedom Plane National Tour will reside in the National WWI Museum And Memorial. It’s a national archive traveling exhibition that brings nine original documents from the U.S.’s founding to eight American cities.
The Freedom Plane National Tour stop in KC was inspired by the American Freedom Train Tour, which drove through Kansas City, Kansas, in 1976. The train was displayed at the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant.
The exhibition will be in Memory Hall located on the east side of Memorial Courtyard. The museum anticipates long lines that could wrap around the building.
Which documents will the Freedom Plane National Tour have?
The following original documents will be available to see in Kansas City:
- Articles of Association from 1774
- George Washington’s, Alexander Hamilton’s, and Aaron Burr’s Oaths of Allegiance, 1778
- Treaty of Paris, 1783
- David Brearley’s Secret Printing of the Constitution, 1787
- State Delegation Votes Approving the Constitution, 1787
- Senate Markup of the Bill of Rights, 1789
- William Stone Engraving of the Declaration of Independence from 1823
How do you get tickets for the Freedom Plane National Tour?
Tickets are free for the Freedom Plane National Tour in Kansas City. Tickets can be acquired on theworldwar.org and selecting the National WWI Museum And Memorial. On the day of your museum visit, you can skip the ticketing line and go straight to the Memory Hall.
The museums said that visitors can get their free tickets on the same day as their visit by going to the ticketing counter. Museum admission can also be purchased there.
