Several hospitalized; impairment suspected in crash outside Kansas City nightclub

Several people were hospitalized after a car slammed into the rear of another vehicle in front of the Aura nightclub in Kansas City’s midtown, and police suspect impairment was a factor, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to the crash shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday outside the nightclub at 3832 Main Street, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that a dark gray Chevrolet Impala, carrying five females, stopped in the KC Streetcar lane in front of Aura. As they were speaking with a bouncer, a gray Chevrolet Malibu heading south on Main from 38th Street at high speeds struck the Impala, Gonzalez said.

All those involved were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The number of patients and their ages were not provided. However, a passenger in the Malibu was listed in critical condition.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and impairment appears to be a factor,” Gonzalez said.
