Two dead after apartment shooting in Kansas City’s Northland Sunday morning
Update: Officers identified the victims as Yasmene Herrera, 22, and Victor Campos, 21. The shooting is being investigated as “an apparent murder suicide,” Sgt. Phillip DiMartino said.
Two are dead after a shooting inside an apartment early Sunday morning in Kansas City’s Northland.
Police were called around 4:30 a.m. to the 2600 block of NE 42nd St. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers heard the sound of a gunshot from an upstairs apartment, according to Alayna Gonzalez, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
Officers entered the unit and found a man and a woman unresponsive, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were declared dead at the scene, according to Gonzalez.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, but detectives are not seeking a person of interest. The investigation is ongoing.
This marks the 25th homicide this year, compared to 25 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star which includes police shootings.
