One man is dead, another is injured after a shooting at a Kansas City intersection Saturday.

Police were called just after 10 p.m. to the intersection of 76th Street and Lydia Avenue on a shooting call and found two adult men inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Officers at the scene performed life-saving measures while waiting for medics. One man was pronounced dead shortly after getting to the hospital. The other sustained non-life-threatening gun shot wounds, according to DiMartino.

During the initial investigation, officers located a possible person of interest in a nearby residence and initiated a standoff, DiMartino said. Negotiators and tactical officers were called in to the scene to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution, but they later found the residence was empty.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, and no one is in custody at this point. Detectives are still working to find out what led to shots being fired.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted through the tips hotline.

This marks Kansas City’s 20th homicide, compared to 25 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Kansas City Star, which includes police shootings.
