One person died after a high-speed crash in a northern Kansas City neighborhood Saturday, police said.

Officers responded around 12:42 a.m. to N. Oak Trafficway near NE 103rd Street on a reported crash. According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened as a white pickup truck sped on N. Oak Trafficway and struck the back end of a silver Buick.

Paramedics responded to the scene, where they pronounced the driver of the Buick dead, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman.

The driver of the white pickup remained at the scene after the crash and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, DiMartino said.

The fatal crash is Kansas City’s 11th traffic death this year, DiMartino said. At this time last year, the city had recorded 8 traffic deaths.
