One man is dead after a single vehicle crash in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called around 1:32 p.m. to the area of Martha Truman Road and Blue River Road on a reported life-threatening injury collision, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

According to the preliminary investigation, a white Dodge Ram pickup was speeding south on Blue River Road when the driver failed to follow the curve of the road . The Dodge drove through the dirt shoulder, up a mound and launched into the treeline, rotated 180 degrees and hit a large tree, according to Becchina.

The only person in the car was the driver, and he was ejected during the collision. He was transported to a local hospital but pronounced dead shortly after, according to Becchina.

The driver’s name has not been released.

This marks the eighth traffic fatality this year compared to five this time last year, according to data tracked by KCPD. The investigation is ongoing.
