Driver dies after vehicle crashes into Rockhurst University building, police say
One person died after a vehicle crashed into a building at a college in Kansas City, police said.
Officers responded around 2:41 p.m. Friday to Rockhurst Road and Virginia Avenue for a reported crash.
According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened as a white Nissan Murano sped south on Virginia Avenue. The Nissan then failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Rockhurst Road and Virginia Avenue, according to a crash report.
The Nissan continued south and struck a gold Jeep Wrangler that was unoccupied and parked on Rockhurst Road. After hitting the Jeep, the Nissan traveled over a curb and up a grassy hill, where it began to roll, according to the crash report.
The Nissan then struck Rockhurst University’s Corcoran Building before coming to rest, according to the crash report.
Paramedics transported the driver of the Nissan to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet publicly identified the person who died.
The fatal crash is Kansas City’s seventh traffic death this year, according to a police department spokesman. At this time last year, the city had recorded five traffic deaths.
