After 20 days of locked doors, the only Kansas City DMV south of the river is back open.

Located off of Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard, between Troost and the Paseo, the Kansas City License Office reopened Jan. 28.

The DMV closed Jan. 9 when it was left without a contractor to issue license plates, drivers licenses and ID cards. The new contractor, Paul J. Wrabec Company Inc., runs DMVs in Independence, Excelsior Springs, Sugar Creek, Platte City and Warrensburg.

All but one Missouri license office are privately owned. The only other DMV within Kansas City limits is in the Northland off of I-29, called the Parkville DMV. The closest license office in Raytown is an 8-mile drive away.

While the Kansas City license office was closed, a sign on the door directed people to another location, like those in Grandview and Gladstone.

The new hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 816-897-5950.
