One dead, one injured after shooting at Kansas City restaurant. No arrests made

One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting at a Kansas City restaurant.

Police were called around 8 p.m. Saturday to the area of East 31st Street and Prospect Avenue where they found two men injured inside a Popeyes, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

One victim was alert and responsive, the second victim, identified as 28-year-old Decorrian Partee, was unresponsive. First responders transported the responsive victim to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Becchina. Partee was declared dead at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates that one or more people were in the restaurant when an interaction escalated to gunfire which struck both victims. The suspect or suspects left the restaurant in an unknown direction, according to Becchina.

This marks the 8th homicide this year, compared to 13 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star which includes police shootings.

Anyone in the restaurant or nearby who heard, or saw anything are asked to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted through the hotline.
