The Johnson County Library suddenly has new fans across the country who can’t get enough of its reel recreating scenes from “The Breakfast Club.”

If there was an Oscar for reels, this would surely win one. (Are there Oscars for reels?)

The video, posted on New Year’s Day, stars the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess and the criminal. (If you know, you know.)

It’s set to the movie’s iconic theme song, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds.

“New Year’s resolutions are great ... but don’t forget about us! Your Library is a fantastic resource not just to help you hit your 2026 goals, but for all sorts of other resources!” the library wrote on Facebook, reminding people its eLibrary is open 24/7.

“The Breakfast Club” came out in 1985, directed by John Hughes (”Home Alone,” “National Lampoon’s Vacation”), a master of portraying adolescent angst. The movie follows five high school students as they spend a Saturday detention together.

We don’t know where the JoCo Library got the Molly Ringwald lookalike, but right down to her brown suede skirt and tall boots she gives a strong Claire vibe.

Ditto for the “basket case” wearing the black Converse high-tops, played by Ally Sheedy in the movie and perfectly aloof in the video.

And of course they’re doing those dance moves. And of course there’s a defiant fist pump at the end.

The social media reviews are smashing. A few from Facebook ...

“This is so good way to call a whole generation to order.”

“Omg ... without my readers I thought you were the actual actors AI shopped into your library. Great costumes!!”

“I was 15 years old when ‘The Breakfast Club’ was released, and this movie had a significant effect on me during those angst-filled years. I absolutely love your video. You all nailed it. Librarians Rule!

“Wait ... this is for a library???? Nailed it!!!!!!!!!”

“Literally thought a weird reboot was happening. Great reel!!”

“Following from Maine just because this is so awesome.”

“This makes me so happy.”

“Watching videos from libraries in other towns has now become my new favorite hobby.”

“I am curating my social media feeds so I see more of these.”

Oh the impact of 15 seconds.
