One detained after a double stabbing in Kansas City, prosecutors eye charges

Prosecutors are considering charges in a New Year’s Day stabbing in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek neighborhood.

Two men suffered life-threatening injures in the incident, which was reported at 4 p.m. Thursday. The stabbing occurred at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue.

Kansas City Police said that when they arrived Thursday afternoon, officers found two people with stab wounds. Police said investigators determined there had been a disturbance between the two men that turned physical. Neither of the people involved in the stabbing were identified by police.

One of the stabbing victims remained in custody Friday, according to police.

Jazzlyn Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, said on Friday that prosecutors were reviewing a case submitted by police for potential charges.

Captain Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said one of the injured men remained hospitalized on Friday. That person was being detained while police continue their investigation, he said.

Becchina did not provide more information about the circumstances that led to the stabbing.
