Kansas City area hospitals celebrate their first babies of 2026. It’s a girl

The University of Kansas Health System announced its first 2026 arrival: a baby girl born to mom Sweety and dad, Mayank, who works for the health system.

The University of Kansas Health System has welcomed its first child of 2026.

A baby girl from mother, Sweety, and father, Mayank, arrived at 12:42 a.m. Thursday, weighing in at 6 pounds, 10.5 ounces and 19.49 inches , according to a news release.

Mayank is a clinical research coordinator for the health system.

The parents are deciding on a name for their newborn.

At other area hospitals, Saint Luke’s Health System welcomed three baby girls at three of its locations.

The first baby, Emma Jean, was born at 1:36 a.m. to parents Erin and Austin on January 1 at Saint Luke’s North Hospital, according to the health system’s social media post.

The next newborn, Yaretzi, was the firstborn at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City at 12:11 p.m.

A third newborn, Ava, was born at 4:43 p.m. to parents Licie and Alec at St. Luke’s East Hospital.

All three mothers and babies are doing well, according to the health system.

Both health systems only released the first names of the parents and newborns.
