One killed, two injured after argument escalated to shooting near Chiefs stadium

Update: Kansas City police identified the victim as 57-year-old Darian Barnes, according to department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina.

One person is dead and two others are critically injured after an argument at an East Side Kansas City home escalated to a shooting Monday.

Police were called around 11:20 p.m. to a shooting at a home in the 4000 block of Arlington Ave., according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Inside the residence, officers found two men and one woman. One of the men was unresponsive and declared dead at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital and are in critical but stable condition, according to Becchina.

Preliminary information indicates an argument began among the three people which escalated to gunfire between one or more of the victims and led to all three getting shot, according to Becchina. Detectives are not searching for additional suspects.

The exact sequence of events, as well as the relationships between the victims, is still under investigation.

This marks the 139th homicide this year compared to 148 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police-involved shootings.
