Kansas City police officers are investigating a car crash in eastern Kansas City that left one person in critical condition after a stolen vehicle drove through a red light.

A preliminary investigation revealed a white Acura was traveling on East 27th Street when it failed to stop at a red light at Indiana Avenue, according to a press release from Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina.

The Acura struck a black Jeep Grand Cherokee on its front passenger side, Becchina said, then hit a light pole before coming to rest.

The driver of the Acura fled the scene, Becchina said. A passenger was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Becchina said.

At the scene of the crash, officers discovered the Acura had been reported stolen, Becchina said. An investigation is ongoing.
