Kansas City-area principal placed on leave, facing out-of-state criminal charges
A Raytown principal has been placed on administrative leave while facing criminal charges out of state.
John Williams, the principal of Raytown South High School, is currently facing fraud charges in Monroe County, Illinois, according to documents filed in Monroe County and Johnson County, Kansas, courts.
The school administrator allegedly left Monroe County, Illinois, while facing an active warrant for his arrest last month and could be extradited back to stand trial. He was charged with fraud by deception, according to court documents.
The Raytown C-2 School District placed Williams on leave Monday afternoon after learning about the charges against him for the first time, according to a statement shared with The Star. The district is currently conducting an investigation into Williams, according to the statement.
“We will review the information and look into the situation, just as we would any other personnel matter,” the statement reads. District communication staff were unavailable for further comment Tuesday afternoon.
According to court documents, Williams left Illinois on Nov. 29 and was arrested in Kansas later that day. He posted a $10,000 bond in Johnson County on Dec. 2, and last appeared before a Kansas judge on Dec. 11.
Shamara Boines, an attorney for Williams, declined to comment on her client’s employment status with the district as of Tuesday afternoon. Boines further declined to comment on the pending fraud charges against Williams.
“Everything is ongoing,” Boines said.
Monroe County, Illinois, is directly south of St. Louis.
Williams’ next hearing has been scheduled for March 11, according to court documents.
