A Kansas City man has been charged with murder and other criminal charges in a November gas station shooting that killed a 41-year-old man.

Adrian Stallings, 27, was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm for allegedly shooting and killing, a man, later identified as Craig Washington, on Nov. 18 in a south Kansas City gas station.

The two men got into an argument after Stallings ordered two shots of liquor, Bacardi Gold, and believed Washington was laughing at him, according to court documents.

Stallings is being held without bond in the Jackson County Detention Center. He was identified and charged after detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance among other online records. Stallings’s face tattoos, seen on store surveillance footage, were matched with previous booking photos, according to court documents.

Kansas City police officer had responded around 8:40 p.m to the 7000 block of Prospect Avenue on a shooting call. They were led inside a convenience store where they found Washington with gunshot wounds and unresponsive on the ground.

After officers provided medical aid to Washington, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Before the shooting, Stallings and a woman walked into the convenience store as Washington and another person were allegedly sitting and playing video games near the door, talking and laughing.

As Stallings was ordering his drink, he questioned them, asking what they were laughing at, according to court documents. An argument began after a man told Stallings no one was laughing at him.

A witness told police that he was the one who was laughing and Washington stepped in between him and the suspect to separate them. The woman could be heard telling Stallings to leave him alone, and that one of the men was her “blood brother.”

Stallings then allegedly pulled out a 9mm pistol and began firing. He shot the victim multiple times in the store before leaving the scene, according to court documents.

Seventeen 9mm shell casings were recovered from the scene.

A clerk at the store told police she heard six to eight gunshots and she recognized the people in the incident as regulars, identifying Stallings in a photo lineup.
