A popular fast-food chicken chain is now expected to make its way back to the Kansas City area in the near future.

A Bojangles representative confirmed that the chain has officially secured the following locations:

  • 12005 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park
  • 9101 Johnson Drive in Merriam
  • 808 NW Highway 7 in Blue Springs

The earliest a Bojangles restaurant could be seen in the metro is summer 2026 for the Overland Park location. The Merriam establishment is targeting an October or November 2026 opening, while the Blue Springs site could open in late 2026 or early 2027.

City documents showed that Bojangles applied for a tenant finish permit at the Overland Park location back in October. The Merriam and Blue Springs sites were once Jack in the Box restaurants, which closed in all its Kansas City area locations this year.

Bojangles said the company has already begun developing the restaurants, though they have not decided if the establishments will be corporately owned. They are open to awarding franchises to local owners and experienced restaurant operators who meet the company’s investment qualifications.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based chain — selling biscuits, sweet tea, chicken sandwiches and more — has roughly 800 locations in 17 states, according to its website.

In 1985, Bojangles opened its first Kansas City area metro spot at 4520 Blue Parkway, thanks to then-restaurant franchisee Dan White, according to The Star’s records. The location is now a Sonic Drive-In.
