Kansas City man faces charges connected with shooting that injured two

A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with a shooting that injured two men in November.

Marquise Bankston was charged with two counts of first degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon with a dangerous felon or prior conviction, according to a Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police were called to a shooting on Nov. 5 where two victims sustained gunshot wounds and had been transported to a nearby hospital. One was shot in the arm, and the other in the upper groin, according to court documents.

Video surveillance cited in court documents captured three people walking and reacting to shots being fired at them from a gray hatchback vehicle that stopped at an intersection, and them returning fire. One of the victims told police that they were walking from his house to a nearby gas station when the shooting occurred. The three then ran back home and got a ride to the hospital.

Detectives used license plate readers and location data from the vehicle which informed them that it had been stolen. Surveillance footage was used to tie Bankston to the shooting, according to the release.

A Jackson County judge set the defendant’s bond to $75,000 cash only.
