Police investigate Kansas City building fire that killed one man

A man is dead after a building fire in Kansas City Tuesday morning.

The Kansas City Fire Department responded around 7:48 a.m. to the 3200 block of East 26th Street, where they saw smoke coming from a single-story building, according to Michael Hopkins, KCFD Battalion Chief .

Firefighters on the scene found a man in his mid-fifties inside the burning building . He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, according to Hopkins.

The Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson unit will investigate due to the fatality. No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
