169 Highway closed for hours after tractor trailer crashed into ambulance

Several lanes of highway were closed after an ambulance was involved in a collision in Kansas City’s Northland Saturday night.

The ambulance was responding to a call around 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes of US 169 Highway near Highway 152. It had pulled over behind a vehicle when it was hit by a tractor trailer, according to Battalion Chief Riley Nolan with the Kansas City Fire Department.

The tractor trailer then crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes of US 169 Highway.

Additional first responders were called to the scene, including the KCFD Hazmat, to contain the fuel spilled onto the highway, according to Nolan. Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed while firefighters addressed the spill and towed the vehicles from the scene.

No KCFD personnel were injured and the status of the tractor trailer driver is not known.

The lanes were back open as of Sunday morning.
