7 Kansas City-area grocery store chains are closed on Thanksgiving. See which

If you run out of dinner rolls or whipped cream on Thanksgiving, your options might be limited for Kansas City-area grocery stores open Nov. 27, 2025.

Various grocery stores will be open Thursday on both the Missouri and Kansas sides, including Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Lenexa.

Those stores could save the day if you need to welcome an extra guest, or pick up a snack on your way to a restaurant’s holiday meal or the Plaza lighting ceremony.

Closed on Thanksgiving

These grocery store chains will be closed the whole day on Thanksgiving:

• Aldi
• Costco
• Hy-Vee
• Sam’s Club
• Target
• Trader Joe’s
• Walmart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets

Open on Thanksgiving

These supermarkets in the Kansas City area will have reduced hours Nov. 27. Some departments, like their delis and pharmacies, might be closed, so check with the store for exact hours.

• Hen House: closes at 1 p.m
• Price Chopper: closes at 1 p.m.
• Save A Lot: closes at 5 p.m.
• Sprouts Farmers Market: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Sun Fresh Market: Almost all locations close at 1 p.m. The Star could not reach anyone at the Blue Parkway location
• Whole Foods: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
