Body of KC woman found in Excelsior Springs after suspected hit-and-run crash

A Kansas City woman died after she was hit by a vehicle in a suspected hit-and-run crash in Excelsior Springs Wednesday, police said.

Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, a 911 call reported a body in the road near the 1000 block of Fredericksburg Road.

Upon arrival, Excelsior Springs police found a deceased woman lying on the shoulder of the road where the caller had reported, according to a news release.

The woman was identified by police as Mary Levingston, 35.

According to preliminary investigative findings , Levingston’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Police said her injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

“The incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run,” a Thursday morning news release said. “No suspect vehicle or driver has been identified at this time.”
