Kansas City area’s forecast: Rain, gusty winds, frost — a bit of everything

You should grab your raincoat instead of an umbrella on Tuesday, as a cold front linked to a storm system from Canada will blow through, bringing widespread rain and strong winds to the Kansas City area.

Rain is expected to spread across the area from west to east on Tuesday and continue overnight, the National Weather Service said. Showers may taper off by Wednesday morning.

Severe weather is not expected, but rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible.

Winds will pick up Tuesday evening as a cold front moves through, and may strengthen further overnight as a new storm system quickly develops over central and southern Missouri, according to the weather service. Gusts up to 40 mph are possible before winds gradually weaken by Wednesday afternoon.

Rain and wind should gradually decrease from northwest to southeast through Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-50s during the day on Tuesday, dipping to the mid-40s. Temperatures will bounce back into the mid-50s on Wednesday before falling into the upper 30s overnight.

Cooler, drier air will lead to clearing skies across the region late in the week, but morning temperatures from Thursday through Sunday are expected to dip low enough to allow frost to form. Temperatures could dip below freezing along and north of U.S. 36 in northern Missouri on Sunday morning, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

Daytime temperatures will gradually warm, from the mid-50s on Thursday to around 61 degrees on Sunday. Kansas City’s average temperature for early November is 60 degrees.
