Pedestrian hit by truck, critically injured on Main Street in Kansas City
A pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck and critically injured Saturday morning in Kansas City, according to police.
Police were called to the scene around 12:44 a.m. in the area of Main Street and Westport Road, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
A preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian was crossing Main Street from east to west on a marked crosswalk with a red light.
At the same time they were crossing, a black GMC Sierra pickup truck was making a right turn from eastbound Westport Road to southbound Main Street and hit the pedestrian, throwing them to the concrete, according to DiMartino.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition Sunday as the investigation was ongoing, according to DiMartino. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Operations of the KC Streetcar were suspended because of the closure of Main Street for the investigation.
