Folly Theater cancels weekend shows following overnight break-in
Performances at Kansas City’s historic Folly Theater have been cancelled this weekend following an overnight break-in, theater representatives say.
Cassidy Manetta, the marketing manager for the theater, told reporters in a press release Friday that the break-in is projected to cost the theater over $250,000.
While it’s unclear when exactly the break-in occurred, theater staff discovered the damage Friday morning, Manetta said. All six of the theater’s lobby monitors were destroyed, broken glass was discovered in the West Lobby door and food products were thrown across counters and floors. Trash cans were overturned, and multiple fire extinguishers were discharged across the stage, orchestra floor and seats.
The theater has yet to determine if any stage lighting or sound equipment was damaged, Manetta said.
As the theater cleans up, all performances set for the weekend have been cancelled, Manetta said. All ticket holders will be contacted directly by the theater, and tickets will remain valid for new performance dates, which have yet to be set.
The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the incident, Manetta said.
The Folly Theater, which has been open since 1900, underwent a $2.5 million renovation in 2018.
