More ‘No Kings’ anti-Trump protests planned in Kansas City. Here’s when & where

Another nationwide protest against President Donald Trump’s actions is scheduled for next weekend, and many will take place in the Kansas City area.

Leaders of the No Kings rallies have set the date for a second set of rallies for Saturday, Oct. 18. The protests and rallies that took place in June saw thousands of citizens gather in Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Lenexa and Overland Park.

The protests are organized by progressive organization Indivisible, with cities having their own branch.

“We felt huge energy with our last two major events, No Kings 1 in June and Hands Off in April,” Beverly Harvey, founder of Indivisible Kansas City, said in a statement. “No Kings is really a very positive event with a serious, collective purpose. I’d say there are twice as many organizations involved this time than there were in June, and we expect more people to show up.”

The protests come during a federal government shutdown which has triggered layoffs, furloughs and pay withheld for federal workers, and traffic delays at some airports . Representatives with Kansas City International Airport said their day-to-day operations haven’t been affected.

Here is what you need to know about No Kings marches in the Kansas City area.

What is No Kings?

No Kings Day is a nationwide protest against Trump’s policies, which national organizers call “authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of our democracy,” according to a press release.

There are No Kings rallies scheduled in 1,500 cities across all 50 states, organizers say. Organizers emphasized that they are trained in deescalation and the event is meant to be a nonviolent protest.

Indivisible is putting on No Kings with organizations including the ACLU, 50501, Planned Parenthood, the Sunrise Movement and various labor unions.
