Wrong-way crash on Ward Parkway near KC school leaves 3 people hospitalized

Three people are hospitalized with serious injuries after a car driving the wrong way hit another car head on in Kansas City Thursday, police said.

Officers responded to a reported crash just before 10 p.m. at Ward Parkway near W 51st Street, near the Pembroke Hill School’s Ward Parkway campus.

According to preliminary information from police, the crash happened as a gray Chevrolet Impala drove north in the southbound lanes of Ward Parkway.

In the area of 51st Street and Ward Parkway, the gray Impala struck a red Chevrolet Impala driving south on Ward Parkway head on, according to a police crash log.

The driver and front seat passenger of the red Impala were both transported to a hospital with critical injuries. As of early Friday morning, occupants of the red Impala remained in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the gray Impala was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. They were in stable condition just after 5 a.m., police said.

An investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
