Woman sentenced to 6 years in prison for fatal DUI crash in Lenexa neighborhood

A Lenexa woman accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash that killed another woman earlier this year has been sentenced to six years in prison.

As part of a plea agreement, Amy Crouch, of Lenexa, pleaded guilty to a count of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence in July. A Johnson County District Court judge handed down the 72-month sentence Thursday.

Zach Thomas, an attorney for Crouch, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.

Tsige Mesfin, 48, of Shawnee, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Jan. 17 crash near the intersection of Park Street and West 89th Terrace in Lenexa.

According to Lenexa police, Mesfin was traveling north on Park Street when a Ford Bronco heading east on West 89th Terrace went through a stop sign and struck her Toyota RAV4.

Two occupants in the Bronco were not injured, and Crouch, the driver of that vehicle, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
