New owner buys Legends outlet mall in Wyandotte County for $130M. Who is it?
The Legends outlet mall in Kansas City, Kansas has a new owner.
Tanger, the North Carolina-based company that owns dozens of shopping centers around the country, announced in a news release this week that it bought the 690,000-square foot mall in Wyandotte County. Legends is the seventh open-air shopping center to join Tanger’s real estate portfolio since 2022.
Tanger bought Legends for $130 million, according to the release. The mall was previously owned by companies tied to Walton Street Capital, a private equity firm based in Chicago, county records show.
The mall will be renamed Tanger Kansas City at Legends.
“Legends in Kansas City aligns perfectly with our strategy to acquire well-located, open-air centers supported by strong residential and economic market fundamentals,” Stephen Yalof, president and CEO of Tanger, said in a statement.
Legends anchors a retail and entertainment area that includes the Kansas Speedway, Hollywood Casino, Children’s Mercy Park, Great Wolf Lodge, a Margaritaville resort-style hotel, Bass Pro Shops and more. A Buc-ee’s is planned.
The mall is 93% occupied and has more than 100 stores, restaurants and entertainment venues, according to the release.
