Wyandotte County can expect to see a Buc-ee’s on its turf by fall 2027 at the latest, the county’s economic development director told The Star.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas’ board of commissioners approved a revision to the project’s development agreement that changed its construction start date to Oct. 1.

Effective that date, Buc-ee’s has to complete construction within 24 months, meaning it should be completed by October 2027. The billion-dollar, Texas-based attraction and gas station plans to set up its new location off Village West Parkway in KCK.

At that location will be a 74,000 square-foot travel center with 120 gas pumps and 12 charging stations for electric vehicles. The project is expected to cost roughly $95 million and will be financed through a combination of private equity, debt and public sales tax dollars through a community improvement district that commissioners approved earlier this summer.

Construction was initially planned for earlier this year, although weather, pinning down a tax incentive agreement and needing to change legal descriptions and language in the development agreement contributed to some delays, according to the Unified Government.
