Worlds of Fun evacuated Saturday night on report of gunfire. No shooting found

Worlds of Fun was evacuated Saturday night because of reports of gunshots, but an investigation showed no evidence of shots being fired, authorities said Sunday.

Police officers working off-duty had reported possible shots fired or the sound of shots, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Police, the Kansas City Fire Department and other agencies responded to the amusement park at 4545 Worlds of Fun Avenue around 9:21 p.m. After a thorough investigation, only one person was transported to a hospital for an unrelated medical issue, according Michael Hopkins, a battalion chief and spokesman for the fire department.

The mass response at the park was due to the crowd size present, according to DiMartino.

As of Sunday morning, there was no evidence of shots being fired. While on the scene, officers broke up several fights among juveniles.

Officers were at the scene for several hours.
