Man’s death in June now ruled a homicide, Kansas City police say

A man’s death in June is now classified as a homicide, according to Kansas City police.

Police and the Kansas City Fire Department were called on June 22 around 2:46 a.m. to the 3600 block of Warwick Boulevard. There, they found Darriyun Webb, 50, unconscious on the floor.

Medics transported Webb to the hospital where he was declared dead, according to Alayna Gonzalez, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Webb’s death was initially considered a death investigation, but autopsy results from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office have caused police to rule it a homicide, Gonzalez said.

Police believe Webb was involved in a physical altercation that led to him lose consciousness.

A man, identified by Gonzalez as a suspect, was interviewed at the scene, but has not been publicly named. According to Gonzalez, detectives are working with the prosecutor’s office to determine applicable charges.

This marked Kansas City’s 80th homicide at that time this year, compared to 85 the same time last year. It brings this year’s total to 111 homicides, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
