Youths injured in bus crash near St. Joseph released from hospitals, pastor says
The victims of a school bus crash near St. Joseph have been released from area hospitals and are recovering, a pastor associated with a Johnson County school said.
Nine people onboard the Shawnee Mission Christian School bus were injured in the crash Friday along Interstate 29 near Faucett, about 15 miles south of St. Joseph. Eight of those hurt were youths ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old, a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report said. One adult was also injured.
Their injuries ranged from minor to serious, and they were all taken to area hospitals, the report said.
The school is operated by Olivet Baptist Church in Westwood, Kansas. At the start of the church’s Sunday morning service, Pastor Micah Bourdess told congregants that those who were injured are recovering.
“Most of you guys know that there was an accident that happened on Friday afternoon, and I’m happy to tell you that everyone is home and everyone is resting up and doing well,” he said. “Thank you so much for keeping all of our students and staff in prayer and continue to keep on praying for them as they recover. A lot of them have sore necks and some bruises and bumps and cuts. Just pray for them this week as they process everything that happened and as they physically recover.”
The bus was headed north on Interstate 29 when one of its front tires blew out, the crash report said. The vehicle began to skid, and a rear tire also blew out before the bus struck a ditch and turned over.
