One person is dead and three others are injured after a shooting in Kansas City Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the 1700 block of East 12th Terrace around 4 p.m. Originally, the call was for shots fired, but was upgraded to a shooting while officers were on the way. Additional calls then indicated someone may have been stabbed, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
Officers were directed to an apartment unit in a complex where they found an adult male suffering from an unknown trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DiMartino. Two other victims were found at the scene; a man suffering from a gunshot wound and a juvenile male suffering from head trauma. Both were taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
While at the scene, officers learned of a fourth victim who was at a hospital. A woman was taken privately to the hospital after being stabbed. She is in serious condition, according to DiMartino.
This is being investigated as a homicide, but police said there is no one in custody at this time. Preliminary information points to there being an altercation between several individuals.
This marks the 103rd homicide this year compared to 101 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star which includes officer-involved shootings.
