Classes cancelled at Arrowhead Middle School after fire starts in boiler room
Classes were cancelled early Monday morning at a Kansas City, Kansas, middle school after a fire started in the building.
Students at Arrowhead Middle School evacuated around 10 a.m. Monday after a table caught fire in a boiler room near the cafeteria, Markl Johnson, Kansas City Kansas Public Schools director of communications and marketing, told The Star in an email Monday.
Members of the school staff were able to contain the fire to the boiler room, Johnson said. All students and staff safely evacuated the building with no injuries reported.
Students were moved to Kansas City Kansas Public Library’s West Wyandotte location adjacent to the school, Johnson said. Parents were given the option to pick up their child from the library.
About one-third of the school’s students remained at the library for the remainder of the school day, Johnson said.
Classes will be moved to HomeField KC Tuesday, Johnson said. It’s unclear when students will return to the building.
The building previously closed for a week in November 2024 after a weekend fire caused by a mechanical failure in the building’s HVAC system damaged a classroom.
