Rain expected to linger in KC area Sunday. Flash flood watch continues
A rain front was expected to linger in the Kansas City area through Monday, though the risk of flash flooding had shifted, the National Weather Service said Sunday.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue after 10a.m. Sunday with wind gusts as high as 24mph and bringing between 1 and 2 inches of rain overnight, according to the National Weather service.
A flash flood watch was to remain in effect until Monday morning.
The highest threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding shifted to the area south of Interstate 70, according to the National Weather Service. Damaging winds in that area could not be ruled out.
The forecast Sunday called for mostly cloudyskies with a high of 89 degrees and a heat index value of 97. Between a quarter and half an inch of rain was forecast. The low was expected to be 71 degrees overnight.
The forecast called for about a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday that could accumulate the same amount of rain as Sunday.
Tuesday was expected to be be partly sunny with a high near 85 and calm winds. The chance of rain is 30% and new rainfall of less than a tenth of an inch, but could be higher if there is a thunderstorm.
