One person died and five others were hurt in a head-on crash in northwest Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. Friday to a reported crash at the 3000 block of Parallel Parkway, where they found multiple people with serious injuries.

An initial investigation showed a vehicle drove east in the westbound lanes of Parallel Parkway when it collided with another vehicle head-on, said Officer T.J. Tomasic, a police spokesman.

A man who allegedly drove the wrong way was the sole occupant of his vehicle. Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Two adults and three juveniles were in the second vehicle. Paramedics transported them to a hospital with serious injuries, Tomasic said.

An investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.
