Here is yet another example of how there is often a Kansas City connection to big news events.

Former Kansas City Chiefs star Tony Gonzalez is in Venice to attend Jeff Bezos’ wedding, an over-the-top three-day affair said to be costing between $46.5 million and $55.6 million.

Paparazzi photos published by British tabloid The Daily Mail showed Gonzalez at the pre-wedding festivities on Thursday.

The wedding ceremony took place Friday in front of A-list guests including Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, Leonardo DiCaprio and (newly single?) Orlando Bloom.

So why was the Hall of Famer there?

The bride, the former Lauren Sanchez, is Gonzalez’ ex-partner and mother to his son, Nikko.

There had been rumors all week that Gonzalez was on the guest list. That seemed to be confirmed Tuesday on Instagram, where the longtime tight end’s wife, actress and TV personality October “Tobie” Gonzalez, posted photos and videos of their family on a European vacation.

“See you soon,” the new Mrs. Bezos commented on one post.

By most accounts, October and Lauren are close. October attended Sanchez’s bachelorette party in Paris last month, according to media reports.

In 2023, Sanchez told the Wall Street Journal she considers the Gonzalezes “my best friends,” and the couples have been seen vacationing together on Bezos’ megayacht.

Judging from online posts this week, though, some people don’t know about the Gonzalez-Sanchez-Bezos connection. (Sanchez has already added Bezos as her last name on Instagram.)

“Sorry Jeff Bezos is marrying Tony Gonzalez baby mother?” an X user named Billy wrote Friday.

As The Star reported last year, Nikko Gonzalez, Gonzalez’s 24-year-old son with Sanchez, spent the first few years of his life as a member of Chiefs Kingdom.

When he graduated from college last year, Sanchez shared a rare family photo of Nikko as a toddler with his dad, a Chiefs tight end from 1997 to 2008.

“Really emotional day for me. My firstborn graduated from college today!” she wrote. “My heart is overflowing with pride for this incredible young man. It seems like yesterday your dad and I were carrying you in our arms. I just want you to know how immensely proud I am of you for achieving this milestone.

“This is just the beginning, Nikko, and I hope you continue chasing your dreams with relentless originality. I love you so much.”

Sanchez and Gonzalez had one child together..

Nikko made his runway debut last year in Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 menswear show in Milan, Italy.

The Italian designers made the gown Sanchez wore Friday. It had a gazillion tiny fabric-covered buttons down the front that sorta made it look it was being worn backwards.

Unfortunately, it competed against the gown worn by a famous guest who broke the cardinal rule of weddings.

Kylie Jenner — gasp! — wore a white gown.

But can we just say? She and her mom, Kris Jenner, were two of the best-dressed guests.
