One person died in a single-car crash in south Kansas City Friday, police said.

Officers responded to a reported crash at Interstate 49 and Interstate 470 just after midnight.

According to a crash log, a white Toyota Camry allegedly sped north on I-49th then failed to turn at a curve in the highway. The Camry drove off the right side of the road and hit a concrete bridge support beam underneath I-470.

The driver, who allegedly did not wear a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle, the crash report said.

Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

The crash is Kansas City’s 37th traffic death this year, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a Kansas City police spokesman. At this time last year, the city had recorded 48 traffic deaths, DiMartino said.
