19-year old woman dies weeks after being shot in Quindaro Park, deputies say

A 19-year-old woman shot in Quindaro Park in Kansas City, Kansas, last month has died, according to a press release from Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Police were called to Quindaro Park around 3:15 a.m. on May 31 on reports of a shooting, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Capt. Michael Kroenig..

Britney Castro-Lopez was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Castro-Lopez succumbed to her injuries on June 14, according to the press release.

A person of interest is in police custody, according to the sheriff’s department. The name of the suspect was not released.

This marks the 8th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2025, compared to 12 killings reported this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police shootings.
