Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas’s budget for next year during a Thursday evening public hearing.

The hearing and a subsequent presentation to community members explaining the budget process will take place during a 7 p.m. full commission meeting, scheduled to be held at the Unified Government building in downtown KCK.

The Unified Government this spring began its 2026 budget process as Wyandotte County continues to see the effects of service cuts prompted by the commission’s 2024 decision to freeze property tax revenues for the 2025 budget year in response to public requests for relief. During this time, transportation services, government departments, law enforcement and emergency services, among other essential government services, have witnessed millions in financial cuts.

Commissioners must in the next few weeks decide whether to freeze revenues for another consecutive year as tax bills continue to burden home and business owners. They are expected to adopt the Unified Government’s 2026 budget later this summer.
