While no one was looking, “The Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider popped into Kansas City recently and visited a couple of local landmarks, including Union Station.

Hazzard fans who learned about it afterward on Facebook were disappointed they didn’t get a chance to meet him as he walked through the massive building in a T-shirt, his poster-boy Bo Duke blond waves now salt-and-pepper gray and vacation-scraggly.

“Did anyone recognize John?” one fan wrote on Schneider’s Facebook page.

Schneider himself answered: “Yes.”

The actor and his wife, Dee Dee Sorvino, have launched a 50-state road trip across the United States to celebrate the nation’s birthday, visiting local places of interest and posting videos on social media under the hashtag #adventuresofjohnanddeedee.

He was enthralled by Kansas City’s historic train station, which opened in 1914.

“We have some pretty amazing places in this country and this is one of them!” he gushed Monday on his Facebook page where 1.2 million follow him.

In his video he can be seen walking through Union Station’s grand plaza, passing other visitors unnoticed.

“This is one of those amazing places that actually seems like it’s bigger inside,” he said. “It’s like you walk into a building and the building is bigger than outside somehow. I don’t know how that is. ...

“This is the Kansas City Union Station. Look at this, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful building. Isn’t that amazing?”

He encouraged viewers to explore the country.

“Along the lines of what Dee Dee and I do with going around the country and looking at great little out of the way places, why not check out some great big, not so out of the way places,” he said. “We have an amazing country of beautiful things here.

“So, if you happen to get to Kansas City, come on out and check out Union Station.”

He ended the video with his enthusiastic Bo Duke yell: “Yee-haa!”

The couple also visited the Art Deco Hotel Phillips downtown.

“Dee Dee & I both agree that the Hotel Phillips is a wonderful hidden gem about 100 yards from Main Street. The Art Deco architecture and fixtures are stunning!” he wrote on Facebook. “It’s a Hilton and well worth coming to Kansas City in itself.

“Also, the Restaurant and bar ‘Tavernonna’ is fantastic as well. It’s rumored there’s also a speakeasy, but since it’s the middle of the day, we have not ventured down!”

By Tuesday Schneider’s post about Union Station had earned nearly 13,000 likes and 1,400 comments, including this question from one cheeky fan: “Did he drive the General Lee?”

A lot of his Kansas City fans were disappointed that he sneaked into town.

“Ummm he was in KC and he did not tell me?”

“Wow I didn’t know you were in town. As a kid I was raised on Dukes of Hazzard ... Welcome to KC. Hope you had a amazing Day ... Signed your biggest Fan!!”

“What the what, you’re here in KC? That’s awesome! ... All of those people walking by you and don’t even know Bo Duke just walked by them!”

“I think I might blush if I walked into Union Station and saw Bo Duke!”

Schneider and his wife announced in early May that they would visit all 50 states “to celebrate our most perfect country. We are open to suggestions, hosts & venues,” he wrote on Facebook.

Kansas City fans told him to try the barbecue the next time he’s in town.
