Young rider without helmet thrown from minibike in crash in KC’s Northland

A young minibike rider was critically injured after being ejected during a crash on Sunday evening in Kansas City’s Northland, according to a police spokesman.

Officers responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. to a reported injury crash at the intersection of North Hunter Drive and Northeast 108th Street, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the youth, whose age has not been released, was riding a black and red Predator minibike north on Hunter when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. He entered the intersection and collided with a maroon Toyota Avalon that was headed eastbound on 108th.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the minibike and taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Avalon was not injured in the crash.

DiMartino stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
