One person was injured when their car crashed into a police vehicle in Independence on Thursday, police said.

Independence police officers were investigating a separate crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 around 4:30 a.m. near Noland Road. A 2009 Chevrolet Malibu allegedly failed to yield to emergency vehicles and collided with the back of a parked Independence police car that was blocking traffic, according to a news release.

The police vehicle was not occupied at the time of the crash and no officers were injured, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Crews worked for around two hours to clear the road on Thursday morning. The interstate reopened around 7:20 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
