A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday afternoon near North Kansas City, according to police.

Officers responded to a fatal collision just after 4:30 p.m. on 210 Highway near North Chouteau Trafficway, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation showed that the pedestrian was on the left shoulder of westbound 210 Highway when an unknown vehicle struck them. The impact threw the pedestrian into the grassy center median, a crash report said.

The vehicle left the scene without stopping, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

Gonzalez said officers from KCPD and the North Kansas City Police responded to the crash. According to the crash report, it is unknown when the pedestrian was struck.

An investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing.

The death is Kansas City’s 20th traffic fatality of 2025, Gonzalez said. At this time last year, there were 38 traffic fatalities.
