How much does it really cost to go to a Royals game? We break it down

Tickets to sporting events are just the beginning of a night out at the ballpark, pitch or field.

Fans walking around the concourse inside the stadium set their eyes on the foods, drinks, merchandise and other items sold at concession stands — all at a stadium price.

Tens of thousands of fans journeyed to Kauffman Stadium to watch the Kansas City Royals’ 3-game series against the Colorado Rockies from April 22-24, which they won. A rain delay Wednesday, April 23, postponed the game to Thursday, giving those fans who originally bought tickets for the 1:10 p.m. game an extra game for free, according to a press release from the Royals.

A doubleheader Thursday meant some fans had to budget extra for spending at the stadium, which comes at a time when half of U.S. residents are “extremely” or “very” concerned about the possibility of the country’s economy going into a recession and prices rising on items in the next few months, according to a poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The Royals are in the midst of their April 25-27 series against the Houston Astros. The Star looked at prices inside Kauffman Stadium to break down how much attending a game could cost fans.
