Kansas 2-year-old in critical condition after ingesting meth, mom faces multiple charges
An Osawatomie, Kansas toddler was hospitalized in critical condition after ingesting methamphetamine Tuesday night, police said.
The toddler’s biological mother was charged Wednesday with aggravated child endangerment, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with altering, concealing or destroying evidence.
Officers with the Osawatomie Police Department responded at 11:58 p.m. to a home at 520 Pacific Ave. after receiving a call from a resident whose 2-year-old granddaughter was in distress, police Chief David Stuteville shared in a Wednesday news release.
While officers were on their way to the house, OPD was informed that the child had allegedly ingested an unknown quantity of methamphetamine and had begun having seizures, Stuteville wrote.
The child was in critical condition when officers arrived and was immediately transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Stuteville wrote. Officers confiscated a small amount of marijuana from the home, along with paraphernalia commonly associated with marijuana and methamphetamines.
While searching the home, Stuteville wrote, officers learned that the child’s mother had allegedly destroyed evidence related to the overdose and the presence of methamphetamine by “flushing” it.
