Victim critically injured in Independence home fire on North Cottage Avenue

One person was critically injured when a fire broke out in an Independence home, the fire department reported on Facebook.

The fire was reported shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday at a house on North Cottage Avenue.

The first arriving fire crews reported smoke coming from the back of the home and entered the home to fight the fire, according to the Independence Fire Department.

During a search, firefighters round a female victim and pulled her from the home. The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Independence Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshals Office were investigating the fire.

A fire department spokesman could not be reached for comment on further details, including the general address of the fire and the age of the victim.
