Woman, 2-year-old son hospitalized with critical injuries after Independence house fire
A woman and her two-year-old son were taken to area hospitals with critical injuries following a house fire in Independence Monday morning.
Independence Fire Department crews were called to the area of East 39th Street and South Main Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. Monday for a house fire with reports of people still inside the residence, the department said.
First responders found heavy smoke coming from the house, and began attacking the fire and moving in to conduct rescues. They pulled a woman and her son from a bedroom, and the two were taken to hospitals in critical condition, the department said.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
The fire is being investigated by the Independence Fire Department, the Independence Police Department and the Missouri Fire Marshal’s office.
